The history of the Zlaten Rozhen winery began in 2009 with the purchase of several small vineyard plots and the construction of a boutique hotel in the village of Rozhen. In 2014, the winery was built in the village of Kapatovo, and in 2018, the new part of the winery opened its doors, including a company store and a modern tasting room with a wine bar. The company's own vineyard plots now cover 800 acres in the villages of Kapatovo and Levunovo. Sandanski Misket, Melnik 55, Melnishki Rubin, Shiroka Melnishka Loza, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Merlot, Nebbiolo, Petit Verdot and Mourvedre are among the varieties they grow. The tasting room is open every day (except Mondays) from 10 am till 6 pm. The winery is famous for its white wine from Sandanski Misket, a local variety that the owners have recognized since the winery's first harvest and can be said to even revive its importance for the region. Among the rosés, you may be interested in Rosaspina (100% Sangiovese), as well as the rosé from the typical Shiroka Melnik grape variety. In the red range, the wines range from fruity and refreshing (Zlaten Rozhen), to elegant (Family Reserve) to aged wines with a potential of over 10 years of aging (Exclusive lot series).
During the spring-autumn season, tastings and events are held in the gazebo near the winery.
The cozy three-star family hotel in the village of Rozhen is located 800m from the remarkable Rozhen Monastery where you can explore numerous eco-trails. The hotel building is a cultural monument and combines cosiness, comfort and traditional style. In 2022 Zlaten Rozhen opened the first private Museum of Vintage Cars, located in close proximity to the winery. The initial exhibition includes 28 cars and 20 motorcycles. Visitors will be able to learn about the history of iconic cars from different eras and countries. Exhibits unique to Bulgaria include the 1960 Mercedes 300D Adenauer Cabriolet, 1961 Messerschmitt, 1912 Ford T, 1964 Mercedes Pullman and many others.
