Treat yourself to a half-day escape from Plovdiv dedicated to wine, history, and beautiful views of the Rhodope Mountains. This tour combines some of the most interesting early Christian monuments in the region with a visit to a modern winery and tasting of selected wines.

What to expect?

Your experience begins with pick-up from your hotel/Airbnb in Plovdiv and departure in a comfortable car or minivan towards Perushtitsa and the Villa Yustina winery.

The first stop is the Church of St. Mary, better known as the Red Church—a decommissioned early medieval basilica and one of the most remarkable early Christian monuments in Southeast Europe. You will have time to explore the site, soak up the atmosphere, and learn more about its history and significance. Afterwards, continue to the Villa Justina Winery, located among the hills at the foot of the Rhodope Mountains.

Here you will follow the "Wine Road" through the production facilities of the winery and the wine cellar – from the vineyard and the grapes, through fermentation and aging, to the finished wine in your glass. After the tour, the tour culminates with a tasting of 5 wines from the "Villa Justina" and "Four Seasons" series.

After the tour, the highlight of the tour follows – a tasting of 5 wines from the Villa Justina and Four Seasons series. A trained wine guide will introduce you to the organoleptic characteristics of each wine, tell you more about the style, variety, and vinification, and answer your questions.

The tasting is accompanied by selected meat and dairy delicacies, bread, and mineral water, so you can experience the harmony between wine and food.

Total duration of the experience: about 4-5 hours (half-day tour), after which you will be returned to your hotel or address in Plovdiv.

Possible tasting times: every day between 10:00 and 16:00.

• Wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing – the tour takes place in both sun and rain.
• It's a good idea to bring a camera or phone – the views of the Rhodopes, vineyards, and Red Church are very photogenic.
• Bring some cash in Bulgarian levs (BGN) in case you want to buy wine or local products and there is no possibility to pay by card.
