Located on Simeonova Mogila, near the Black Sea coast, winery DiVes combines history and winemaking. The hill Simeonova Mogila is linked to one of the greatest battles in Bulgarian history – the battle of Achelous. Here Tsar Simeon I of Bulgaria defeated the byzantine army in a grand battle in 917 and by doing so he affirms the strength and position of Bulgaria.
In honour of Simeon's victory the monument "Eye of the Victor” was erected, which became the symbol of the winery and can be seen on each of their wine labels.
The historic and wine tour begins with a tour of the wine cellar where you will get to know the history of the region, the different stages of winemaking and the culmination is a tasting session of 5 wines, 2 of which are from the cellar’s special selection in their wine tasting room. The second experience which is the lesser known of the two but equally exciting is the Aroma sampling of 5 different varieties of Bulgarian lavender. The walk among the terraced slopes of the winery where they grow different types of lavender will be informative on where the different varieties grow, how they are used and what the aroma of each variety is like. It is an experience that everyone should indulge in.
This unusual tour commences with the blooming of the lavender which is usually around June 20th each year. The tours then take place every day and can be done in Bulgarian, English or German.
You will be able to see, smell and enjoy the different varieties by using specialist technology which you will be shown on site.
